Galloper Wind Farm accepted for examination
On 19 December, the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) confirmed acceptance for examination of a Development Consent Order application for Galloper Wind Farm – an up to 504 megawatt (MW) extension to the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm that is currently under construction – with much of the environmental assessment work completed by Royal Haskoning on behalf of SSE and RWE npower renewables. The wind farm, off the coast of Suffolk, is a joint venture between SSE and RWE npower renewables. Read more

Royal Haskoning delivers sustainable electricity generation in rural Western Uganda
Royal Haskoning is going to provide 350,000 people in poor areas of rural Western Uganda with renewable electrical energy by installing a cluster of 10 mini-hydropower units (7-10 megawatt) and electrical transmission and distribution systems. This means that nationally the percentage of the rural population connected to the grid in Uganda will increase from 6% to 7.5. The absence of electricity is considered by the World Bank as one of the major constraints that keeps people poor. Read more

SeaGen Strangford Lough Tidal Turbine Gets All-Clear From Environmental & Scientific Studies
As well as being a renewable energy success , SeaGen, the world’s first commercial tidal current energy turbine is also an environmental success. The tidal turbine, designed and deployed by Marine Current Turbines Ltd (MCT) and located in Northern Ireland’s Strangford Lough has had no major impact on the Lough’s marine life. This is the main conclusion of a report prepared by the environmental consultancy Royal Haskoning, in collaboration with an independent Science Group, comprising representatives of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, Queen’s University Belfast, the Sea Mammal Research Unit and others. The Science Group was chaired by David Erwin, a former Chief Executive of the Ulster Wildlife Trust. Read more

Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs)
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC)’s consultation on renewable energy re-banding, (announced on 20 October), focuses on scalable lower-cost renewable technologies that will deliver the majority of electricity the Government needs to meet its 2020 targets - and aims to ensure developers will continue to receive appropriate support when market conditions change and innovations develop. The opening of a new 1.38km repair quay wall is a major capability upgrade for the Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard Company (ASRY) in Bahrain, already regarded as one of the world's largest and most efficient ship-repair and conversion yards – and its successful construction is in no small measure due to project consultant Royal Haskoning. Royal Haskoning celebrates its involvement in the Hurricane and Storm Risk Reduction System in New Orleans
On 8 December, Royal Haskoning celebrated the completion of its activities for the famous Hurricane & Storm Damage Risk Reduction System program. The Dutch Consul in New Orleans, Constance Willems, was also present at the event, which was held with local partner Evans and Graves. She praised the company for deploying Dutch coastal defence expertise in New Orleans. Read more
