With its first bill to parliament calling for improvements in energy efficiency in buildings and industry, the Committee for Climate Change wants to see decarbonisation of the power sector by replacing conventional fossil fuel fired plant with renewable technologies such as wind, tidal and nuclear new build. Both the EU and the UK recognise that they will not be able to replace fossil fuels entirely within the next 50 years and see value in replacing high CO2 emitting fuels with natural gas
