Flood and coastal risk management
Working alongside artist John Maine RA, and an environmental consultant, ECOSA, this award winning coast protection scheme involved the enhancement of the existing adjacent lagoon areas, creating the Alan Hersey Nature Reserve.
Providing a coastal defence is the primary purpose of a scheme of this nature. However, the development of the scheme also paid close attention to those who would ultimately use the area, both human and wildlife, with the evolution of the design taking these elements into account.

This resulted in the scheme being widely acknowledged as a success by the general public, local residents, environmental bodies and the Council.

The scheme won the NCE/ACE Consultants of the Year Outstanding Achievement Award in 2005 and the Jo Mitchell Conservation Award from the Isle of Wight Council in 2003.

We undertook preliminary investigation work, the Defra Project Appraisal Report, Environmental Impact Assessment, detailed design, contract administration and site supervision of this coast protection scheme.

Significant consultation was undertaken with the environmental agencies and the public throughout the development of the project as the scheme is located in an environmentally sensitive area, carrying Ramsar, SPA, and SSSI designations.
