Extensive flooding experienced in recent years has highlighted the real risk to many low lying areas, as such the risk of erosion to our coast has also increased.

The scale of damage and disruption to areas previously untouched by flooding has called for better understanding of the impact of climate change on rainfall, tidal levels and wave heights and solutions to limit damage. We recognise the potential for successful flood risk and coastal management to act as a catalyst for regeneration.

PFRA Guidance - Preliminary Flood Risk Assessments

PFRA (Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment) must be submitted to the Environment Agency by June 2011. This page provides PFRA guidance to LLFAs preparing their submissions.

Integrated coastal zone management

We work to develop and achieve sustainable use of coastal zones and their resources.

Geomorphology

Geomorphology plays an important role in understanding the interaction between human activities and the changing landforms of our rivers, estuaries, coasts and offshore areas.

Flood forecasting & warning

We have completed flood forecasting and flood warning studies and have developed flood forecasting systems for both coastal and fluvial flood risk areas throughout the UK.

Flood alleviation schemes

Royal Haskoning has a long and recognised track record in the implementation of flood alleviation schemes in coastal and river environments.

Emergency response

We develop emergency response procedures and assist in flood incident recovery. In June 2004, the evacuation of 200 homes in North East Scotland was prevented by using hydrological tools we had developed for the management of flood event decision making.

Catchment & river basin management

Royal Haskoning undertakes strategic level studies for local authorities and the Environment Agency to assess sustainable management approaches for river basins and catchments.
