Flood and coastal risk management
Managing the risk of flooding is one of the Environment Agency’s highest priorities and the maintenance of its network of flood defence assets is becoming an increasingly important part of its flood defence activities.
The Agency called in Royal Haskoning to conduct a survey of around 130 weirs, sluices and other structures along the River Nene between Northampton and Peterborough. Some of these assets were constructed between the 1920s and 1950s, and were last inspected ten years ago. The results of our findings would give the Agency an initial snapshot of the state of all of the Nene’s assets and help it to prioritise its maintenance spending over the next 10-20 years or so.
