Maasvlakte power plant with CO2 capture
Havenbedrijf Rotterdam N.V.
E.ON started work on the construction of its third Maasvlakte power plant in 2007. When the power station is complete (in 2012), it will supply 1100 megawatts, equivalent to seven percent of the total electricity requirement in the Netherlands. Construction of the capture and storage facility that will extract the CO2 emitted by the power station began last year
The captured CO2 w ill be stored in a disused natural gas field off the coast. Our local knowledge means Royal Haskoning was in a position to contribute to the coordination of technical issues and apply for and obtain the necessary permits. We also have a permanent representation on the E.ON project team. This allows us to bring our expertise to various areas, including contract management, the coordination of quality monitoring and quality control, fire safety management and site supervision, and in this way to bring the project to a successful conclusion.
