An extensive environmental statement was also prepared and used for the application of all necessary work licenses in the sensitive area adjacent to the Pembrokeshire coastline.
The berth will be upgraded to accept vessels up to 50,000 dwt and 200m overall length. The original berth was constructed in the mid 1960s, the berth handles vessels up to 20,000 dwt.
Work includes: an extension of the existing jetty head supporting loading arms and fire monitor towers, jetty head will include fendering for smaller vessels and an under-berth access way; installation of a new service crane and stair for a new ship-to-shore access gangway; construction of two new berthing dolphins; construction of a new mooring dolphin and access walkway; strengthening and upgrading of three existing mooring dolphins.
This leg of development at Milford Haven is part of a larger project which includes dredging of the berth pocket and replacement of the existing pipework.
Royal Haskoning will act as project manager and CDM coordinator for the contract during the construction phase.
