Royal Haskoning were commissioned by Enertrag UK Limited to provide Road Safety advice in relation to their proposed wind farm development at Linton, Cambridgeshire.

The proposal of eight wind turbines at a site in Linton had become the subject of a planning inquiry with multiple objections from the local parish council, including the potential road safety impact of driver distraction on traffic travelling on the nearby A1307, which was supported by AECOM in their objection report.

In response to AECOM’s driver distraction report Royal Haskoning undertook analysis of collisions occurring at several wind farm sites with similar characteristics to assess the safety impacts pre and post construction, in addition to reviewing highway and wind farm policy and research within the United Kingdom and internationally.

Royal Haskoning’s findings concluded there was no evidence to suggest that the Linton Wind farm development would compromise road safety as a result of driver distraction, a view supported by the Planning Inspectorate to successfully rebut this particular objection.
