If you have ever had to move a three-seater settee or large wardrobe around a tight hallway or through a narrow front door, you’re probably aware of the problems and frustration that can arise. Now imagine transporting a 56m long turbine blade along secondary roads through roundabouts, villages and towns. A massive logistical challenge - where there’s a lot more at stake than scuffing paintwork or trapping fingers.

Equivalent in length to five double-decker buses, the blade is 11m longer than any turbine component ever transported by road in the UK to date.

Royal Haskoning’s Highway and Transport Planning expert has carried out an in-depth transport study on behalf of wind farm developer Enertrag for several sites in Norfolk. The study was an important component of the planning application Enertrag has submitted to South Norfolk District Council as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) that will help it achieve planning consent to construct a wind farm at Tivetshall St Mary, in Norfolk.
