This study was commissioned by North Somerset Council to examine the condition and effectiveness of the sea defences that provide protection from flooding to Weston-super-Mare and to examine and identify potential solutions to address flood risk.
 
This study included a condition survey of existing defences. Hydraulic modelling including wave modelling and sediment transport was carried out to assess the effectiveness of these defences.

Extensive consultation was carried out to identify a number of possible solutions. These solutions were modelled and an economic analysis of the options was carried out. Socio-economic benefits were also investigated as part of the analysis. Based on the recommendations of this study a scheme will shortly be undertaken.
